Prince Harry has shared one of the reasons behind his decision to stay in the US, addressing the ongoing rumors about a potential divorce from Meghan Markle.
Speculation about their relationship has been growing recently, as many have noticed they are seldom seen together in public.
Following his solo attendance at several events since his return from Colombia in August, fans have been left questioning what might be happening behind the scenes.
Harry recently addressed the topic during the 2024 New York Times DealBook Summit.
Andrew Ross Sorkin, NYT columnist and founder of DealBook, asked him about his relationship, referencing Meghan’s plans to attend a gala in Beverly Hills.
Sorkin remarked: “‘I Google News-ed you, and there were people fascinated by everything you’re doing, all the time. They’re fascinated by Meghan is in California right now, and you’re here.”
He continued: “And there’s articles left and right about, you know, ‘Why are you making, doing independent events? Why aren’t you doing them together?'”
Laughing, the 40-year-old responded: “Because you invited me, you should have known!”
He added, “And I think when you grow up within that environment, you do find yourself questioning the validity of the information but also what other people are thinking of that as well, and how dangerous it can be over the course of time.”
He also commented on the ongoing speculation surrounding his family over the years, saying: “Apparently we’ve bought or moved house 10, 12 times. We’ve apparently divorced maybe 10, 12 times as well. So it’s just like, what?”
The father-of-two shared: “I’ve had a lived experience since I was a kid, I’ve seen stories written about myself that aren’t exactly based on reality.
“I’ve seen stories about members of my family, friends, strangers, all sorts of people.
“And I think when you grow up within that environment, you do find yourself questioning the validity of the information but also what other people are thinking of that as well, and how dangerous it can be over the course of time.”
Harry expressed that the individuals he feels “most sorry about” are the “trolls.”
“Their hopes are just built and built, and it’s like, ‘Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes,’ and then it doesn’t happen. So I feel sorry for them. Genuinely, I do,” he stated.
The Duke of Sussex also shared that he has no intention of moving his family back to Britain after relocating to the US in 2020.
When Sorkin asked whether he plans to stay in America permanently, Harry responded: “I do.
“I very much enjoy living here and bringing my kids up here.”
He further mentioned that his life in the US, free from royal duties, feels “as though it’s the life my mum wanted” for him.
Harry elaborated that living in America allows him, Meghan, and their children, Archie and Lilibet, a level of privacy and opportunities for activities they “undoubtedly wouldn’t be able to do in the UK” due to security concerns.
For now, Harry emphasized that his priority is “being the best husband and the best dad that I can be.”
